[RL--GIANT ROBOT DEATH...something]
Blackout had chosen to set down in a confusion of rock, a red-and-gold mess of spires and ridges and furrows in the ground, somewhere in the deserts of the continent the humans designated North America. Another mech might have appreciated the sere, spartan aesthetic of the place; he only appreciated its location. There was a human roadway some miles distant--close enough to be in range of optics and long-distance audio, but far enough that he could be sure they wouldn't notice the helicopter parked among the rocks. Close enough to monitor, distant enough to ignore.

He relaxed, as much as he could. Lord Megatron would be calling on him soon enough, he knew, and he would be ready when he did, but for now he was willing to sit in the sun and soak up free heat.

Bumblebee blended into this kind of landscape better than Blackout did, perhaps...when he finally tracked down the faint signal half-lost in this barren landscape, his golden paint mirrored the natural colors of the rock around him. The loud revving of his engine was harder to ignore, but he could have been any human-piloted car until he drew even with Blackout's distant lookout on the paved track and...stopped.

He turned a little to give his sensors maximum input, found the Decepticon's position, and then determinedly moved back onto the road, accelerating away.

If he hadn't stopped, Blackout probably wouldn't have noticed him. Most of his attention was on other things--monitoring the long-distance comm channels for word from his leader (and, perhaps, his drone), planning a raid to pick up some of the sludge that passed for fuel on this planet--and he had only the barest edge of concentration on that distant road.

Still. He couldn't have missed that, and there was no chance of coincidence there. He briefly considered--no.

He lifted into the air.

He'd known it was probably stupid to stop, that it would make him noticeable, but the rocks had made positive identification difficult...not taking the chance would have meant that the mission's success was questionable, and that was not a consequence to be borne.

Still. Couldn't his luck with this sort of thing be good for once in his life?

Bumblebee went faster.

Miles distant, but but the Autobot was still unmistakable (not that he would have bothered moving if he wasn't sure). He banked wide to catch a tailwind and accelerated, intent on catching up to the little ground-bound as quickly as possible.

Helicopters can move faster than cars. Bumblebee knew this.

He figured MORE acceleration was worth a shot anyway.

Like it would do any good. It was almost amusingly easy to catch up to the Camaro, but when he did, he did little more than pace him, a couple hundred feet up and off to the side of the road.

Blackout toggled his internal radio and transmitted. "What do you want?"

Bumblebee stopped abruptly - he might be slower than Blackout, but he was certainly more maneuverable.

"A visit is not permissible, then?"

Tricky little--Blackout overshot and had to drop his tail to bleed speed, pivoting around as tight a turn as he could manage.

"A visitor would actually stop and visit." He didn't approach as closely this time. "State your purpose before I decide I don't care."

"To ascertain your location - no more," replied Bumblebee reluctantly. It wasn't like knowing the truth would give Blackout anything in particular. "Now that I've done so, it's time for me to move on to my next objective."

Hmm. Whatever he had expected the Autobot, to say, it hadn't been that. Of course, he was suspicious, but then again, he was a Decepticon. He held his position. "And what would that be?"

"Something that does not concern you, Blackout. I'll give you the information pertinent to my stop here - an explanation is only fair. But I'm not going to hand out free intelligence." Bumblebee informed him dryly, still backing slowly down the road.

His only other standing obligation was to protect Sam, but he wasn't going to say that.

He hadn't honestly expected an answer, but it was surprising, sometimes, the information you could get out of someone simply by asking. He began to edge forward, moving with the minimum velocity necessary to remain successfully airborne.

"And you expect to just...drive away?"

Bumblebee kept backing up, trying to provoke Blackout into faster movement - something that'd be harder to reverse, if he had to make a break for it. Subtle. He had to be subtle, here.

"The thought had crossed my mind."

"Hah!" The laugh was a staccato burst across the radio band, and nothing a human would have recognized as such.

Bumblebee forced any nervousness down - Blackout would be a more difficult fight than Barricade if he was forced to it, but it might not come to that. Calm.

"Out of curiousity...what would you gain, exactly, in stopping me?"

"I wouldn't be so bored."

He picked up his speed, just a little, needing stability against the unpredictable winds chasing each other across the desert.

Bumblebee stopped. Forcing Blackout to circle around him would give him a little more psychological advantage than backing away as if he was afraid.

"Another game of chess, perhaps?"

Bumblebee kept very still, feeling the road's warmth through his tires, working out the angle of the sun in case he needed the knowledge somehow...

"You'll have to be more specific."

He realized he'd been losing altitude--gradually--and arrested his descent. The circling continued, and it would have made an intriguing sight, had there been anyone around to witness it. He cast his sensory array as wide as it would reach, idly. The immediate vicinity was deserted.

But he didn't answer. Not immediately.

Bumblebee tried not to let the circling remind him too much of the vultures he'd seen near roadkill, on the streets of this planet. On Cybertron the part-scavengers were as likely to come at you from the ground as the air, if your comrades didn't find you in time. And he was equipped to deal with that sort of thing.

He waited.

Still he continued to hesitate, almost as though...as though reluctant to engage the Autobot in a firefight. And why shouldn't he be, eh? Was he Bonecrusher, willing to dismember anything that came into sensor range? Was he Starscream, fixated on proving his superiority to everyone and only able to go about it one way? No.

There was nothing in his orders--"Prepare yourself, and await my call"--that dictated the need to attack, though there was nothing to prevent it, either. Still. He was a Decepticon, and should Lord Megatron find out...

Using one of the human analogue weapons of his alt-form, he very calculatedly opened fire.

This was more or less the conversational gambit Bumblebee had been expecting, unfortunately. He was rather surprised that the Decepticon had waited to attack as long as he had...

Rather than stay to take damage, he immediately took off at his fastest pace, the solar-powered extra gear that had once saved his aft from Barricade's pursuit, before the other Autobots had ever found their way onto Earth's surface. Swerving back and forth across the road, he attempted to minimize damage by making himself a moving target - what little did hit him was insignificant so far. If nothing else, his reaction time was excellent.
